A 76/12/8/4 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and Petit Verdot from the single-site estate vineyard, in Pokolbin, Lower Hunter Valley. Low-cropping vines that are a combination of volcanic hill, with a south-easterly aspect at an elevation of 50-100m. The soil is heavy red clay, with limestone beneath. Vines are pruned heavily for low production, high-quality fruit and trellised with vertical shoot positioning. The grapes are hand-picked early in the morning, and crushed into open fermenters, where they are gently hand-plunged every 6 hours for a week before being transferred to old (French oak) casks for natural settling. In the spring the wine is transferred to small French oak barrels (225-litre) for a year before bottling.

Other Reviews....
Cabernet Sauvignon (76%), Shiraz (12%), Merlot (8%), Petit Verdot (4%). Tasted from a 375ml bottle.
Cherry, raspberry, a fair amount of perfume, a little aniseed and almond, cedar and spice. Medium-bodied, crisp red fruits, subtle tobacco/earthiness, light cedar oak, tannin is also light, but sure-footed, and the finish is long and fresh. So charming. Such a lovely thing to drink. Distinctive too. Drink 2023 - 2035+
