2021 Balnaves of Coonawarra Shiraz
Rich and lush with medium to full body weight and a chewy mouth feel.
Dense pitch black heart with a deep dark red black tinged hue. Blackberry, black cherry and liquorice aromas fill the nostrils followed by some scorched earth, vanillin cedar and peppered fennel notes. Rich, lush black cherry, liquorice and blackberry fruits decorate the medium to full bodied palate with scorched earth, vanillin cedar and blackpepper the undercard. Chewy mouth feel with a sturdy tannin structure and generous medium to long conclusion.
Drink over the next 4-5 years.

Other Reviews……
Fruit is sourced from the Paulownia and Vortmann Vineyards. Fermented with 28% whole bunches and matured in large-format French oak (34% new) for 13 months. A bouquet of baked boysenberries, mulberries and ripe cherries followed by a concoction of baking spices, caraway, vanilla and cardamom. Pumpernickel bread, pressed prune pits and black olive. The acidity is perfectly poised like a tiger ready to spring with silky tannins that draw out the length of flavour on the palate. It is wholesome in its generosity and yet svelte in its frame. A class act and astonishing for the price. Drink by 2028.

Shanteh Wale - James Halliday’s Australian Wine Companion
The 2021 Shiraz is a poised expression with bursts of blackberry, pepper and cherry compote aromas. At present, oak feels a little heavy against a backdrop of blackcurrant and licorice flavors. However, the density of flavor and impressive sustained length suggest this wine will come together—it just needs time. Drink 2030-2038.
