2021 A d'Aussieres (Domaines Barons de Rothschild Lafite) Pays d'Oc Rouge
Domaine d'Aussieres is nestled in the steep hills just back from the Mediterranean coast in Narbonne in the South of France. The estate was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) in 1999, owners of some the most revered Chateau’ in Bordeaux which sell upwards of $2000 per bottle (Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Chateau Duhart-Milon, Chateau L’Evangile and Chateau Rieussec.) Upon assuming control Baron Eric de Rothschild undertook a vast rehabilitation program of the estate including the replanting of some 413 acres with carefully selected traditional Languedoc grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan, complimented by Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay. The building was restored at the same time and a new winery installed in the old cellars.
A delicious, bargain priced Languedoc blend utilising the winemaking know how of one of the world’s great wine estates, Chateau Lafite Rothschild.
A blend of 30% Syrah, 29% Grenache, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, along with smaller proportions of Alicante-Henri-Bouschet, Marselan, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. Deep black dark red core with a dark red hue. Jumping out of the glass are pronounced black raspberry and black cherry aromas which are trailed by some liquorice, dried herb, scorched earth and pepper notes. Rich, juicy black cherry and liquorice fruits carry medium body weight over a back drop of black raspberry, scorched earth, dried meat and peppered dried herb elements. Possessing a chewy feel it has medium grained tannins and nicely integrated acidity. The slightly dryish mid length finish showing off some rustic charm.
Drink over the next 2-3 years.
