2020 Domaine Christian Moreau Clos des Hospices dans Les Clos Chablis Grand Cru
Once again the nose reflects just enough wood to be worth pointing out though it easily allows the slightly riper if otherwise similar aromas to shine. There is also excellent intensity to the dense, powerful and punchy broad-shouldered and sappy flavors that display outstanding length on the balanced and slightly more persistent finale. The regular cuvée is a bit racier and this is a bit weightier and more powerful, so these two wines offer, in essence, a qualitative choice. Drink 2030+.
Allen Meadows - Burghound
The 2020 Chablis Les Clos Clos des Hospices has a lovely bouquet of white peach, citrus peel and flinty notes, all vibrant and tensile. The palate is taut and fresh on the entry, featuring lime and citrus lemon flavors, although the finish doesn’t quite have the depth of the Les Clos at the moment. I might actually prefer the regular cuvée this year. Drink 2024-2042.
Neal Martin - Vinous
The paler colour of the two and slightly fleshier on the nose. More substantial but less Chablisien? There are some attractive citrus notes in the mix. Fair persistence, but the Hospices version is being a little shy at the moment.
