2020 Bowen Estate Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon

Still family owned and operated, this small Coonawarra vineyard has been evolving over the past 40+ years and now involves their daughter, Emma who has taken on the winemaking role whilst Doug is looking after the viticultural side of things. The Estate consists of 33 hectares of vines planted on the prized Coonawarra Terra Rosa soils. Established in 1972, the first vintage in 1975 was greeted with considerable enthusiasm.
Matured for 18 months in French oak barriques. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Pronounced ripe red to black currant and mulberry aromas mix with some red liquorice, cedary tobacco characters, light earth and bay leaf notes. Medium to full in body, this 2020 rendition shows more elegance than recent vintages yet still remains boldly flavoured with red to black currant and mulberry fruits dominate over a cedary tobacco, subtle stalky earth and bay leaf back drop. Polished tannins finishing with good freshness and a long savoury aftertaste. A very refined Bowen Cabernet that shy’s away from the tradition blockbuster styles that the house is renown for.
Drink over the next 6-8 years.
