2019 Shaw & Smith M3 Chardonnay

Brilliant pale straw at its core with a distinct tinge of green to the edges and a watery hue. Pronounced fresh nectarine and grapefruit aromas meld into hints of dried honey that have a gun flint overlay. Some light biscuity oak and citrus notes are also present. Medium bodied the palate has a generous flavour profile of ripe nectarine, subtle grapefruit and dried honey that’s enveloped in a full yet refined creamy like textural feel. Excellent concentration and energy with biscuity oak, citrusy nougat and faint cashew on the back half. Fresh finish with a long multi layered aftertaste.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.

This is a very concentrated, complex and refined chardonnay that locks in on very intense white peaches, lemons and grapefruit, framed in a wealth of fresh, spicy, young French oak, as well as flinty elements. The palate has mouthwateringly fresh acidity, powering fresh lemon and peach flavors into a long, tautly wound finish. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Shaw + Smith M3 Chardonnay is in quite exceptional form.
Brilliant release. Great intensity both to the palate and the finish and with plenty going on besides. Flint, smoke, grapefruit and stone fruit characters but it’s the emphatic energy of the finish that really sets it apart. One sip and I was hooked, convinced, and in its thrall. Drink 2021-2027+
