2019 Bideona Laderas Tempranillo
Bideona (formerly Badiola) belongs to Península Vinicultores and produces village and plot wines that reflect the freshness, elegance and depth of aromas of Rioja Alavesa . They manage more than 300 plots of extraordinary vineyards on the slopes of the Sierra Cantabria, mainly in the towns of Villabuena de Álava, Leza, Samaniego, Laguardia, Navaridas and Baños de Ebro.
Approximately a quarter of the wine is aged for 4-6 months in new, high-quality French and American oak barrels , for greater complexity and texture, but without excessive oak input to overpower the fruit.
Deep dark red black shaded colour with a dark red hue. Attractive black cherry and liquorice scents rise out of the glass trailed by some earth, faint dried meat, leather and spice notes. Rich black cherry and liquorice fruits fill the medium bodied palate. Good flesh with ripe chewy tannins imparting some delicate grip to the finish. Scorched earth, spicy vanillin cedar, dried meats and traces of leather meander through the back half. Impressive depth and refinement with a long slightly rustic conclusion that shows good freshness.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
