2018 Silkman Blackberry Semillon
Classic tense, steely Hunter Semillon with some tertiary characters beginning to shine through.
Brilliant pale straw core with a distinctive green tint to the edges and a watery hue. Elevated lime, lemon butter and green apple aromas are interwoven with hints of bees wax, oily toast like notes and wet steel. Tense and steely in it’s feel the palate features lemon and lime fruits over oily toast like characters, fig, bees wax and steely mineral like elements. Crisp acidity sculpting the long, dry mineral laced finish.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 11.5%
Other Reviews…..
Hand-picked fruit from the Blackberry Vineyard is pressed without destemming to allow quick drainage. The wine sees some post-ferment lees ageing to add texture to the mid-palate. This wine shows signs of the vintage with its concentrated mid-palate, gentle, smoky development and ripe pear and honey notes. That said, the palate is still fresh and tight, and of all the 2018s tasted, this is perhaps the least evolved. The palate is beautifully cleansing. Take care not to over-chill. Drink by 2028.
