Impenetrable inky black in colour with a deep dark red black hue. Wafting through the nostrils are potent scents of ripe blackberry, liquorice and black cherry which are trailed by vanillin cedar, scorched earth and peppered dried herb notes. Rich blackberry, liquorice and black cherry fruits are framed by muscular tannins. Vanillin oak, earthy fennel like characters, dried meats and blackpepper lie underneath. Dry grippy finish with a deep core of opulent fruit firmly sculptured by a tightly knit structure.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.6%

Other Reviews….
Still with the meat fat and spice on the nose, the 2018 Domaine Clarendon Syrah is supple, elegant, midnight dark and pure. There is clarity here, without weight through the finish. It is more polished and less meaty/complex than the 2017 tasted beside it. Drink 2022-2032.

Erin Larkin – Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate

Attractive Rhône-like aromas that belie the heady alcohol. Blue fruits, smoked meats, dried seaweed and a molten core of kirsch smeared with black olive paste. A big mouthful. The tannic kit and finish bit too drying to merit a higher score. Drink by 2024.
