2018 Balgownie Estate Centre Block Shiraz
Aged in a combination of French oak barriques and puncheons. Totally opaque black dark red colour with a dark red hue. Pronounced dark plum, liquorice and blackberry aromas have a toasty oak overlay with hints of dark chocolate, scorched earth and blackpepper in the background. Medium to full in body with a plush feel the palate sports spicy dark plum and liquorice fruit over scorched earth, toasty vanillin cedar and blackpepper. Polished yet sturdy tannin structure with a refined mid length conclusion.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.2%
Other Reviews…..
Hand-picked fruit was given a 2-day cold soak and then fermented in open vats with 20% whole bunches and 25% whole berries, 24 days on skins. Matured for 12 months in French barriques and puncheons (30% new). A shiraz rich in Central Victorian charm and honest flavours of its terroir. Buoyant aromas of blackberry, mint, bitter chocolate and earth. Beautifully integrated, everything in its place, with a smooth ride to the finish. Drink by 2030.
