2017 Wilson DJW Polish Hill River Riesling
The DJW vineyard was planted by John and son Daniel Wilson in 1997. At the time, the aim was to produce additional fruit for the successful Wilson Polish Hill River Riesling but the vineyard had other ideas. From the first vintage it was immediately obvious that the DJW vineyard was quite different from the Polish Hill River vineyard. The grapes and bunches were larger and the vineyard produced a spectrum of flavours that had their own unique qualities. As a consequence a new Riesling was born and was named after the single vineyard from where it originates, the DJW.
Boasting fabulous concentration and power the DJW completes a Trifecta of outstanding 2017 Rieslings from Wilson.
Brilliant very pale straw colour with a light greenish tinge around the edges and a watery hue. Pronounced lime juice and green apple aromas merge with citrus and chalky talc like notes followed by hints of stony mineral like characters. Outstanding intensity of flavour on the palate with lime, citrus and green apple flooding the mouth underpinned by chalky talc characters and a steely minerality. Finishes dry with crunchy acidity and a long powerful aftertaste of lime, citrus, chalky talc and steeling mineral characters.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 12.5%

Hand-picked, chilled to 2 degrees C, whole-bunch pressed, cool-fermented, gold medals Canberra Riesling Challenge '17, Brother John May Trophy for Wine of Provenance Clare Valley Wine Show '17 (with the '06 an '10). An enduring marriage between the small patch on the 20yo estate vineyard that is succoured by a subsoil winter stream of water, vine vigour and bunch weights not impinging on the power of the Polish Hill River district. It has a sour lemon sherbet flavour that is mouthwatering and very long. Drink by 2037.
