2017 Powell & Son Loechal Eden Valley Shiraz

The Loechel Eden Valley Shiraz is sourced from a single vineyard at the Southern tip of the Eden Valley township planted over half a century ago by the Loechel family. Maturation is in French oak barriques for 18 months.
Pitch black in colour with a very deep dark red black hue. Perfumed violet like scents are interlaced with liquorice, ripe blackberry and dark plum fruit notes. Hints of dark chocolate, smoky vanillin oak, traces of earth, dried meats, fennel and subtle spicy mocha add nuance and complexity to a very intense sniff. Sinfully rich, lusty and super concentrated, the plushly textured palate is laden with blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruit which overlays smoky vanillin cedar, traces of clove, some meatiness, earthy dark chocolate and spice. Incredible power and depth with velvet smooth tannins complementing the sumptuous fruit, giving the wine a very polished feel. Exceptionally long, rich and detailed finish.
