2016 David Duband Chambertin Grand Cru
Burgundy, FRANCE
David Duband is regarded as one of the rising stars of Burgundy. He took over his family domaine at a very young age and now has more than 20 vintages of experience behind him. Starting out with small family holdings David, together with his business partner Francois Feuillet, have added to their portfolio of wines through the purchase of some exceptional old Grand cru vineyards throughout Gevrey Chambertin and Morey St Denis, including prime holdings of retiring vigneron Jacky Truchot.

(Duband's parcel was decimated by the frost, yielding just five hectoliters per hectare): Good medium red. More bound-up on the nose than the Charmes-Chambertin, hinting at smoky minerality. The fattest and most voluminous of these 2016s but extremely backward today and showing no easy sweetness. Best at present on the very long, saline, stony, uncompromisingly dry finish, which features big tannins, serious medicinal reserve and a captivating floral high note.
