    2015 Penfolds St Henri Shiraz

    South Australia, AUSTRALIA

    $1440.00 Dozen
    Cellar: 8 - 10 Years (2027-2029)
    ABV: 14.5%
    Closure: Stelvin
Magnificent inky black colour with a deep dark red black hue. Intense yet quite finessed aromatics of blackberries, dark plum and liquorice sail out of the glass followed by lightly smoked vanillin cedar, confectionary and pepper. Rich dark plum, liquorice and blackberry flavours flood the medium to full bodied palate. Refined supple feel with sturdy yet fine grained tannins and youthful acidity providing a great framework. Subtle elements of vanillin oak, fennel, earth and pepper are also evident. Excellent power and a long finish.
    Cellar 8-10 years.
    Alc. 14.5%

The 2015 Shiraz St. Henri needed plenty of air to shine (I followed this wine for three days) but is a rich, beautiful wine. Ripe black raspberries, incense, minty herbs, and liquid violet notes all emerge from this medium to full-bodied, layered, concentrated Shiraz that’s impeccably balanced. It doesn’t have the broad, multi-dimensional texture found in the 2016s but is classic, focused, and structured. Give bottles another 3-4 years, and it will keep for 10-15 years. Drink 2021-2033.

93% shiraz, 7% cabernet sauvignon from McLaren Vale, Robe, The Peninsulas, Barossa Valley, Wrattonbully, Adelaide Hills and Mount Benson, matured for 12 months in 50+yo large oak vats. Deep crimson-purple; an almost tarry note lurks in the blackcurrant, tapenade and earth of the bouquet; there is a torrent of flavour, richer yet cooler than many '15s. Drink by 2045.
