The first hectare of vines was planted on the Domaine Grand Nicolet property in 1875. The winery was established in 1926 and further plantings of Grenache and Carignan were made, replacing cereal crops. The present owner, Jean Pierre Bertrand purchased the Estate in 1999 which has now expanded to 20 hectares (50 acres) of vines. Rhone super star Philippe Cambie acts as consultant.

The Cotes du Rhone blend is produced from predominately Grenache and Syrah with some smaller amounts of Carignan and Cinsault also included. Aged in concrete vats for 6-8 months. Excellent colour for an entry level Cotes du Rhone. Opaque dark red black core with a dark red hue. Nosing offers up a mix of raspberries and cherries infused with dried herbs followed by some light spicy scorched earth and pepper notes. Possessing good medium body weight and generosity, flavours of juicy black raspberries and liquorice combine over spicy dried herb infusions and a touch of earth with a peppery finish. Quite robust in its mouthfeel with slightly dryish, sturdily built tannins providing some structure and a bit of grip. Very spicy aftertaste of black raspberries, liquorice, scorched earth and pepper.
Cellar 2-3 years.
