The giveaway gems from Signatory's 100 proof series continue to be unpacked. Just landed from the warehouse is another edition of the sweet'n'smokey Caol Ila, and like the previous bottling, the direct import price defies market trends. So consistent is Caol Ila that it would be boring if not for the fabulous quality of the distillate, and the fact that it often excels at ten years old - or younger. Add first and re-fill oloroso and there’s even more to enjoy - a fatter, richer mouthfeel compared to plain old bourbon, with oozing peat reek and sherry making for the whisky equivalent of 'umami'. A no-brainer for Islay fans, Edition #49 comes with positive reviews, bottled non chill filtered and close to cask strength. Compared with others in the 100 Proof Series, there's much less of this to go round, so if Islay is your thing, don't hesitate. 57.1% Alc./Vol.

Other reviews... Very round and balanced. The Oloroso is surprisingly sweet, so I would have guessed it was a sweet red wine. This isn't a sign of quality, but it's remarkable nonetheless.
