2014 Produttori del Barbaresco Montestefano Riserva Barbaresco

Piedmont, ITALY
$130. 00
Bottle
$1560.00 Dozen
ABV: 14%
Closure: Cork

Montestefano is one of the vineyards with higher concentrations of calcium in the soil that gives the wine a powerful tannic structure. The extra warmth of the South facing slope is responsible for the full body and meaty texture, so it's a deep flavoured wine with ripe fruit and tannins.
In a wetter season it is usually the last to be picked among the Barbaresco vineyards. This is probably the Barbaresco that reminds us more of Barolo where flavours of tar and roses prevail. This is a truly wonderful Barbaresco, never too heavy on the palate but shows a classy finish that lingers without overwhelming the senses.

Other Reviews....
One of the many highlights in this range, the Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is superb. A big enrobing wine, the Montestefano wraps around the palate with stunning depth. Today, the Montestefano is utterly embryonic, and yet it exudes depth, resonance and pure class. The Montestefano is one of the more complete wines in the range because of the way it deftly balances fruit intensity and structure. Readers will have to be patient, though.

Antonio Galloni - Vinous

This is visibly the darkest in color and concentration of this series of wines from the well-known Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative. The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano offers round and supple fruit with dark cherry, blackberry and some easy spice. Once again, the wine is a bit flatter than I had hoped, lacking that extra level of snappy freshness.

Pure cherry flavors permeate the rich flesh of this red, backed by vibrant acidity and fine tannins. Eucalyptus, earth and tar elements add depth as this cruises to a lingering finish. Fine intensity. Best from 2021 through 2040.
