2014 Charles Melton Grains of Paradise Shiraz
Aged for 24 months in a mix of 60% American and 40% French oak barriques of which 30% were new. Totally opaque black dark red core with a deep dark red hue. Powerful scents of liquorice, dark plums and subtle dark chocolate stream from the glass followed by smoky vanillin oak, fennel and spice. Rich opulent mouthfeel with lavish yet refined flavours of plum, liquorice and fennel cascading across the palate like liquid silk with an undercurrent of smoky vanillin cedar and spice. Velvet smooth tannins. Long conclusion of plum, liquorice, fennel, smoky vanillin cedar and spice.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
Other Reviews….
Aged on lees for 24 months in a 60/40% mix of American and French barriques, the American oak seasoned for 3 years in France and coopered using the immersion bending technique. The bouquet is exceptionally complex and fragrant, with spiced plum and oak translating to the equally complex medium-bodied palate. Its fundamental elegance is captured by the long palate and aftertaste. A wine with unlimited exploration opportunities. Drink by 2044.
