2013 Archer Heathcote Shiraz

From an ideal vintage in Heathcote that saw low yields across all clones of Shiraz and grapes harvested in perfect condition. After partial destemming, each parcel was fermented with a high proportion of whole bunches (approximately 75%) utilising ambient yeasts.  The resulting components were aged in French oak puncheons (30% new) for 10 months.  They were then racked, blended together and returned to barrel for a further 6 months maturation.

Dense pitch black core with a deep very dark red black hue. Intense liquorice and blackberry aromas meld into earthy vanillin cedar, fennel, spicy leather and blackpepper notes. Rich plummy liquorice and blueberry fruits drive the palate with underpinnings of spicy vanillin cedar, subtle leather and pepper. Remarkably still quite fresh there’s a subtle chewiness to the mouthfeel. Polished tannins with a blackpepper infused blue to dark fruited conclusion.
