2012 Seabrook The Chairman Shiraz
The Seabrook Family have been part of the Australian wine business since 1878, starting one of the country’s most respected wine companies W.J Seabrook & Son. The Chairman is named in honour of Hamish’s late Grandfather Douglas Seabrook. Doug continued from his father Tom in the family wine business and was the longest serving chairman of judges at the Royal Melbourne Wine Show which spanned for more than 30 years.
Full, Rich and chewy, this is a big structured Great Western Shiraz
Totally opaque midnight black colour with a deep dark purple black tinged hue. A combination of liquorice and ripe blackberry scents provide an intense sniff followed by some more subtle ripe black cherry, vanillin cedar, earth and spice notes. Full bodied the palate is coated with lashings of liquoricy aniseed, black cherry and blackberry flavours infused with black pepper over a back drop of toasty vanillin cedar, earth and spice. The rich opulent fruit tempered by a ripe chewy tannin structure which provides some grip on the finish. Outstanding concentration and depth with a very long conclusion of liquoricy aniseed characters, ripe black cherries, blackberries, smoky vanillin cedar, a subtle earthiness and pepper.
Cellar 6-8 years.
Alc 14.5%
Other Reviews….
A cascade of spicy, savoury, peppery black fruits runs through the long, medium-bodied palate, the tannins and oak both on the money. Great Western produces shiraz of great class. Drink by 2032.
