2012 Lady of the Glen Blair Athol Single Cask #306693 9 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

The first-fill sweet wine finish works in favour of this buxom Blair Athol. Yellow fruits and boiled lolly come with a tempered sweetness and a noticeably spicy overlay before a finish that evokes almond biscotti and apricot syrup. It may be lacking the extra layers that convey complexity, but this is a thick-textured and enjoyable ambassador for a distillery which rarely gets the limelight. 54.5% Alc./Vol. Non-chill filtered. 278 bottles.

Notes from the bottlers... The distillate is medium bodied, sweet and fruity. Matured in a refill Hogshead for most of its life before it was finished in a 1st fill sauternes wine barrique for honeyed notes and apricot. The tasting revealed, glazed honey, candied red apple and rowies.
