2010 Douglas Laing & Co. Old Particular Single Cask Deanston 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
As has become the case with many distilleries nowadays, Deanston tend to ‘enhance’ everything using casks that are a bit novel or influenced by various liquids, whether wines or spirits (including tequila(!) that they previously contained. Turning to independent bottlers to taste a Deanston closer to the distillate has almost become mandatory. Here's a more 'natural' one from Douglas Laing, consisting of 292 bottles charged from a refill barrel. Notes on a sister cask from whiskyfun.com state "Very good and apparently, the barley was even organic." 48.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Orange peel with sweet Highland Malted barley, lime juice and vanilla pods. Palate: Butterscotch with date filled stick toffee pudding and a runny caramel sauce. Finish: Gently spiced, cedarwood, green apple with blueberry and black forest fruits.
