Torbreck is named after the Scottish forest where David Powell toiled as a lumberjack before discovering the joys of the vine. Woodcutter’s is his entry level Shiraz. ‘This kind of red I liked to drink with a hearty meal after a hard day’s work in the woods" says Powell. He understands how to make a wine that's the perfect ‘knock off’ drink - unpretentious, eminently satisfying and priced to allow for regular indulgence. It pays homage to humble yet happy times.
Totally opaque black crimson purple colour with very deep dark crimson purple hue. The nose displays lifted aromas of blackberry and dark plum followed by some liquorice, confectionary and spice. The palate is not quite as weighty as the 2008 but nonetheless is still very generous possessing mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and confectionary with some spicy peppery characters making an appearance on the back palate. Beautifully integrated, super fine grained tannins give the wine an almost velvet like texture. Long aftertaste of ripe blackberry, liquorice, dark plum and blackpepper.
Drink over the next 3-4 years (2010-2014)
Alc 14.5 %
