Glen Elgin's medium-bodied, floral and fruity distillate can work extremely well with sweet wine finishes. This one's spent time in an ex-Madeira Barrique from J. Dias. Christmas spices and dried fruits feature on the nose and palate with an attractive fresh fruit cake character. Spices gang up, turning the profile momentarily bittersweet, but the juicy dried fruits rally at the finish. Ends brief, slightly astringent and woody. 55.2% Alc.Vol. Non chill filtered. 277 bottles

Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Fairly dry initially with notes of toasted oak, dark chocolate and roasted nuts. However, with time, sweetness emerges in the form of milk chocolate, candied orange peel and waxy honey. Palate: In the mouth there is an explosion of fruity sweetness in the form of baked apples, blackcurrants and juicy raisins & sultanas. Balance is provided in the form of festive spices, cinnamon and a touch of fennel. Finish: The spice and herbal notes dominate here with a blackcurrant lozenge and a hint of dark mint chocolate. The honey notes from before are now like manuka honey on toast.
