2008 Douglas Laing & Co. Old Particular Single Cask Royal Brackla 15 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Chosen by King William IV in 1835 to be known as the King’s own whisky, Brackla was given a Royal Warrant, the first of its kind, and from then on was called "Royal Brackla". Today, the distillery’s range has been revamped, re-entering the market in 2015. Known for employing an unusually long fermentation combined with tall stills to create an ester-rich spirit, the malt is typically fruity and fairly robust, working well with sherry casks. This one sees 269 bottles filled from a refill hogshead (x-Bourbon, we'd expect). 48.4% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Creamy cereal with just a hint of spice, polished wood and apricot jam. Palate: Barley-rich with some nutmeg and brown sugar apparent alongside vanilla'd oak. Finish: Lingers with a citric tang plus buttery pastry and more of that earlier barley depth.
