Matured for 18 months in a combination of new and old French oak hogsheads. Opaque dark red colour with deep dark red (verging on brick red) hue. Aromas of stewed plum, ripe blackcurrant and dark chocolate. Medium to full bodied the palate is quite fleshy with generous flavours of ripe dark plum and dark chocolate with a strong toasty vanillin oak overlay. Soft supple tannins and mouthfeel with aftertaste of dark plum, spice and toasty vanillin oak. The oak component is a little too prominent.
Drink over the next 1-2 years (2011-2013).
