Compared with similar Caol Ilas (there are hundreds), this shows a little less complexity but exceeds expectations with more body and salt'n'pepper bite. A bright, fresh bouquet of dry grass, Fisherman's Friend lozenges and smoked ham opens up to reveal sandalwood and white pepper. Menthol cigarettes, grilled pineapple and lime juice follow in a blast of maritime peat and brine. All of the traditional Caol Ila hallmarks are beautifully defined, with extra intensity.
