2007 Cullen Diana Madeline Cabernets

Cullen rate this wine as one of the great Diana Madeline’s that they’ve produced. Made from a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, the wine was matured for 14 months in high quality French oak barriques

Deep opaque purple crimson red colour with purple mauve hue. The nose presents a very refined sniff with aromas of cedar, cassis, tobacco, truffle and spice end notes. Medium weight palate, refined with an underlying core of ripe fruit – flavours of blackcurrant, cedar, cigar box, mulberry, liquorice and truffle all seamlessly integrated. Superb complexity and depth of flavour with excellent persistence. Very fine grained dry tannins which give the wine a tightly knit structure, ideal for long term cellaring. Perfectly balanced. Very long cedar, blackcurrant, liquorice, cigar box and truffle aftertaste.

This is as close to perfection as one can imagine in terms of structure, texture and its complex fruit flavours. Great now, greater still in another 10 years, and who knows how long thereafter. Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Cabernet Franc/Petit Verdot. Screwcap.
