2004 Elderton Barossa Shiraz

The fruit for Elderton Shiraz is grown exclusively on the Elderton Vineyard situated on the banks of the NorthParaRiver, Nuriootpa, Barossa Valley, South Australia. Originally established as a vineyard supplying fruit to other wineries it began making its own wines under the Elderton label in 1982 and has since experienced phenomenal success around the world. Their voluptuous fruit bomb styled Barossa Shiraz, in particular, has lead the way and in exceptional vintages like 2002 & 2004 offers remarkable value.

2004 was again a dream vintage for Shiraz in the Barossa, with a wonderfully cool growing season allowing physiological ripeness to be as good as the much heralded 2002 vintage. Like many contemporary winemakers, Elderton incorporate science with tradition in their winemaking. Whilst the team is aware of the pH, baume and acidity, the decision to pick is made by physically assessing the flavour profiles of each block of vines, rather than picking on ‘numbers’ alone. Produced from vines around 40 years old the wine was matured in a combination of French and American oak puncheons for 12 months.

A classic Barossa Shiraz and a perfect example of the Elderton style, filled with the vanilla flavours of American oak and the ripe voluptuous flavours of the Barossa. 

Totally opaque black purple colour with deep black purple hue.  The palate delivers a fruit bomb of primary flavour overlaid with liquorice, vanilla, plum, blackberry and black pepper.  Totally mouthfilling.  Perfect balance with fine grained tannins.  Very long aftertaste of violet infusions, vanilla and spice. Outstanding Value.
