2001 Smithbrook The Yilgarn Merlot Cabernet Franc Petit Verdot

The blend consists of 86% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 6 % Cabernet Franc. The Yilgarn is made from the Company’s best fruit sourced from low yielding non irrigated vineyards. The individual components of this wine were all fermented separately and master blended prior to bottling. 18 months maturation in New French and American oak. Very deep crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Aroma of cedar, blackcurrant, cigar box and spice. The palate profile is relatively tight, with flavours of blackcurrant, mulberry and spice emerging, followed by a touch of white pepper on the back palate. Fine grained tannins, excellent balance. Aftertaste of vanilla, liquorice and blackcurrant.
