Opaque black, crimson colour, with black crimson hue. The nose is opulent with notes of vanilla, violet and plum emerging, followed by a dark chocolate end note. The palate flavour profile builds slowly with liquorice all sorts, vanilla oak, spice, blackberry and black pepper emerging. Fine dry tannins creating a wine with less pomposity than previous vintages – a reflection of vintage conditions. A more restrained Stonewell than the extraordinary 1998.
