1999 Devil's Lair Fifth Leg Semillon Chardonnay

There is a surprising commonality of flavours when fully ripened Semillon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc converge. This wine makes slick use of the convergence, and counterpoints it with a delicate grassy end note. Aroma of ripe peach, tropical fruit and ripe gooseberry are perfectly integrated on the nose. The palate has weight and mouthfeel, but lacks the intensity promised by the nose. Dominant flavours of ripe gooseberries and tropical fruit. Clean crisp acid finish, followed by long aftertaste of spice and tropical fruit. Cellar 1-2 years.
