1998 The Whisky Cellar Private Cellars Selection The Speyside Distillery 22 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

A curious bottling from this south Speyside newbie. Distilled back in 1998, it's another relatively early effort as production only commenced in 1990. The Whisky Cellars have matured it full-term in an American oak hogshead before bottling in March 2021. Tasted from a 20ml sample, the flavour profile is in the mainstream of medium-bodied Speysiders (think Glen Moray, Linkwood or Teaninich). A delicious interplay of poached orchard fruits, in particular, pears and spiced apples, is matched by succulent, medium-sweet malt and a flurry of spices. Fine tuned oak and hints of mint keep things fresh and balanced. Lovely stuff, but it could be from a dozen different distilleries. This bottling was in demand in the UK where it fast sold out, although that's not surprising given the cask yielded just 103 bottles. Very limited stocks. 52.8% Alc./Vol. No chill filtration.
