1998 Douglas Laing & Co. Old Particular Single Cask North British 25 Year Old Single Grain Scotch Whisky (700ml)
Just outside of Edinburgh sits North British, busy since 1887 distilling unmalted grains like corn and wheat via column stills. The plant's focus is to supply grain whisky for use in blends such as Cutty Sark, Famous Grouse, Chivas Regal, J&B, Isle of Skye and Johnnie Walker. Their standalone whiskies are generally considered very good, especially when given decades to mature, allowing creamy textures, deep notes of vanilla, caramel and sometimes, tropical fruit to develop. We think the price/age ratio speaks for itself in this value 25-year-old direct import from Laing & Co. 190 bottles at 51.5% ABV make up the outturn. Non-chill filtered.
Notes from the bottlers... Nose: Anticipate a big, dulcet, indulgent and interestingly spiced, gently oaked, gristy quality. Palate: Shows a peppered, warmly piquant style with late cereal, fruit, and crystallised honey. Finish: Carries all the aforementioned, tailing attractively to subsequent toffee and mocha.
