1993 Yarra Edge Cabernets

Yarra Edge was established in 1983 by John and Susan Bingeman with the objective to produce Bordeaux and Burgundy style wines. The Bingemans are unashamed to draw their inspiration from the Great Growths of Bordeaux, and planted their vineyard accordingly to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc and 2% Malbec. The 1993 has just been released and it's an exceptional red.Deep crimson colour, mauve edges. Magnificent nose, ripe spicy almonds, chocolate, blackcurrant, plum and cedar. Very Bordeaux and strongly influenced by St. Julien. The palate is concentrated, presenting an array of flavours, ripe plum, blackcurrant, dark chocolate and spice, excellent depth with liquorice overtones. The tannins are fine, but quite firm, yet well supported by the fruit. Fine dry finish, with long blackcurrant truffle aftertaste. A superb cellaring proposition, 8 - 10 years.
