Established in 1963 by Dr Max Lake, Lake’s Folly was the first new vineyard established in the Hunter Valley during the 20th century and became a pioneer of Australia’s boutique wine movement. The estate built its reputation on two wines: a Cabernet-based red blend and Chardonnay, both produced from estate-grown fruit. The 1993 vintage was dry and very late, with the season reflected in Lake’s Folly’s historical vintage records. The estate’s traditional approach to red winemaking centres on hand harvesting, gentle crushing and open fermentation, followed by maturation in small French oak barrels. This Cabernet blend is based on Cabernet Sauvignon (90%), complemented by a small portion of Merlot (10%). Presented in magnum format as a Museum Release, this wine represents a piece of the history of one of Australia’s pioneering boutique wine estates.
