1991 Petaluma Coonawarra Merlot

1991 was a relatively early vintage, harvests being mid March, which was followed by early bud bursting and flowering.Medium body, the colour is a touch advanced with deep brick red. The nose is very similar to the 1990 with aroma of leather, truffle, spice and confectionery and again quite perfumed. The palate flavours are markedly less concentrated, which is a surprise given the yield was the same (3½ tonne per acre). The fruit flavours are beginning to fade with truffle, spice and leather being the dominant flavour components. Fine, dry tannins, well balanced, with long stewed fruit, leather and spice aftertaste.
