Malt whisky lovers should keep an eye out for the new offerings being released by the reputable Cadenhead firm under their 'Duthies' label. Mr Duthie was the nephew of William Cadenhead and ran William Cadenhead Ltd from 1904 until his untimely death in 1931. He was also the person most responsible for building the reputation of Cadenhead's as a bottler of single malts and rum. The Duthies 'Copper Still' collection presently includes independent bottlings of Auchentoshan 19 YO, Caol Ila 13 YO, Cragganmore 15 YO, Glen Grant 13 YO (Sherry wood matured), Glen Scotia 17 YO and Mortlach 16 YO (also exclusively matured in Sherry wood). All the whiskies have been non chill filtered with no colouring added.

Arguably the most exciting release yet, this bottling from Ardbeg offers sensational value. Our cursory tasting revealed classic sweet peat flavours and plenty of Sherry influence. With 1110 bottles produced from one cask, the sums point towards a single Sherry butt making this all the more unique by present day Ardbeg standards.

Tasting notes: Bright straw gold appearance. Offers a rich, sweet, fruit cake Ardbeg aroma with sooty peat over vanilla and cocoa. Not without freshness, as some hints of lanolin here too. Soft, warming spirit unfolds a surprsingly dry, lightish profile. Creamy texture. Mild dried fruit flavours are followed by a lanolin aftertaste that's keenly dry. Concludes a little short. 46% Alc./Vol.
