The Arran 12 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Isle of Arran, SCOTLAND
$130. 00
Bottle
$1560.00 Dozen
ABV: 52.9%

We were enamored with Arran's early efforts which were defined by pristinely clean, sweet, unpeated malt. Like many others, Arran has diversified its portfolio since its inception, now offering a range of wood finishes, cask strength bottlings and even a peated whisky (it seems every distillery has to have at least one nowadays!) Their latest collection to land in Australia places Arran along side the likes of Springbank and Bruichladdich for sheer innovation and breadth.

Tasting note: Deep gold. Slightly spiritous and shellac-like followed by more attractive opening aromas of oatmeal and ginger biscuit. Hints of tyre tube compete with vanilla, dried fruits and honey after aeration with the latter winning out. Sweet cereal flavours are the highlight in what is a slightly oily and quite warming delivery; the spices abate at mid palate; plenty of cocoa on the finish. Ends warm, tingly and long. Probably a little raw for those accustomed to the gentler ‘house style’ that the distillery launched with. 52.9% Alc./Vol.
