"Smoked bacon and cornflakes."

Tasting note: For a long time it was difficult to find Ardmore of any description. Nowadays there's regular bottlings from indies, as well as official distillery releases. Typically moderately peated, Ardmore showcases a very traditional Highland style, being more wood smoke than maritime. You also can find references to high end mezcal. Like Caol Ila, for example, some of the most exciting expressions are relatively young. This eight year old from a Bourbon barrel conjures aromas of butter menthol lozenge and whiffs of chimney soot. Already showing precocious balance, the full, oily attack suggests smoked meats, along with sweeter notes of tea biscuits. Background wood smoke completes the picture. Approachable uncut, this is seriously good young malt. From a tiny outturn of 173 bottles (around 50 litres were taken to be finished in an octave for a separate release). 59.6% Alc./Vol. Non chill filtered.

Notes from Gregor Hannah... "smoked bacon and cornflakes".
