An outstanding result for Petaluma. Produced from a dry year, with small crops of 2 tonnes per acre, the wine displays excellent depth and concentration of flavour. Made from a blend of 60% Cabernet and 40% Merlot, the wine has been matured for 18 months in new Nevers and Allier oak casks. Deep crimson mauve colour. Superb nose, filled with the aroma of violets, mulberries, cedar and spice. The palate reflects the complexity of the nose and displays layers of flavours that will ultimately mesh. Liquorice, blackcurrant and mulberry flavours are dominant. The wine displays excellent persistence and is supported by velvet smooth tannins. Perfect balance, followed by very long aftertaste of liquorice, blackcurrant and cedar. Cellar 4-5 years.
