1997 Carn Mor "Celebration of the Cask" Dailuaine 21 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

Never easy to find, many whisky lovers remain ignorant of the existence of this Speyside gem. Owned by Diageo, Dailuaine (pronounced "dal-u-ayn") forms a major part of Dewar's blends thanks to its robust flavours, but is also released in smaller quantities as a single malt. The house style is often compared with Benrinnes, being typically "meaty, big, boisterous, and sherried."

Tasting note: [15ml sample] Dailuaine uncut demonstrates just how weighty this spirit can be. Dense, bittersweet aromas develop, packed with orange oils, dark chocolate and later, peel heavy marmalade. The full-throttle, spiced-up attack repeats the citrusy notes while the finish leaves you with orange spice cake and sweet oak. One of the better Dailuaines tasted to date, but not for the faint hearted.
