Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve Champagne Magnum (1500ml)
Champagne, FRANCE
Expansive yet refined and racy with a long, energetic finish.
This blend of 40% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Meunier is sourced from up to 60 different Crus in order to maximise complexity and is made up of 50% reserve wines, many of them more than 10 years old to provide additional richness. 5% to10% of wine is vinified in old Burgundy oak barrels.
Pours with an exuberant mousse which gracefully fades into a pale straw pale gold tinged base that has a nimble stream of bubbles coursing through it. Elevated citrus and pear scents combine with yeast lees, chalky mineral, faint baked bread and subtle honeyed cashew notes. Rich and expansive yet refined and racy, the palate has mouth filling flavours of pear, yeast lees and roasted almond which are sculptured by chalky acidity. Some citrus and baked bread characters line the back half. Lacy yet tense and stimulating it finishes long and energetic.
Alc. 12%
Other Reviews....
Charles Heidsieck might be nicknamed Poor Man’s Krug given the astonishing number of vintages in the reserve wines, their age (10 years in tank), and the seven years the wine spends on lees once blended and bottled. It is an exceptional wine in the mouth, supple, layered, complex and long.

Really fine bubbles. Extremely intense, showing dried apples, peaches and light apricots with brioche and pie crust. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture and a long, long finish. Very subtle. A blend of pinot noir, chardonnay and pinot meunier. 10% of the 2020 base wine fermented and aged in barrel. Dosage 8 g/L. Drink now.
