New comer Julia Weirich in collaboration with the Sons of Eden boys, has produced another superb Shiraz under her Whaler label. Julia is German in heritage but gypsy at heart, having worked all over the world, honing her skills in wineries including Bass Phillip in Australia, Yealands in New Zealand, Le Grappin in Burgundy and Mulderbosch in South Africa. Upon returning to Australia she set about making wine for herself with the help of the well-known dynamic team behind Sons of Eden.
Fruit was sourced from the Barossa Valley (30%) and Eden Valley (70%) with the Eden Valley portion seeing a small portion of whole bunch inclusion. Each vineyard parcel was fermented and matured separately with aging taking place in a range of seasoned oak barrels for a period of 14 months.

Impenetrable inky black core with a very deep dark purple black hue. Streaming out of the glass are ripe dark plum and liquorice scents with black cherry and a hint of blueberry fruit also evident. Lightly smoked vanillin cedar, fennel and spice notes follow on. Rich, plush and deeply concentrated yet fresh on the finish, the opulently textured palate is layered with lavish dark plum, blackberry, liquorice and blueberry fruits which are underscored by vanillin cedar, fennel, subtle dried herb and spice elements. Perfectly integrated silky smooth tannins. Excellent power with an aftertaste that’s long, sumptuous and fleshy.
Drink over the next 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
