2017 was a belter of a vintage for Barossa reds and if this release of Woodcutter’s Shiraz is any indication there’s going to be some stellar wines released over the next few years. Sourced from hand harvested and hand tended plots throughout the North western Barossa Valley the Woodcutter’s Shiraz is fermented in a mixture of cement, wooden and stainless steel vats for 6-7 days and then basket pressed to well-seasoned hogsheads and French oak foudres for 12 months.
A gem of a Barossa Shiraz that delivers ripping value.
Impressive colour displaying an impenetrable inky black dark purple core with a deep dark purple black tinged hue. Pronounced aromatics of fresh plum, liquorice, crushed blackberries and blueberries combine over inky vanillin cedar and spicy fennel. Rich, dense and exuberant the palate is where this wine really shines delivering a full bodied expression of succulent freshly crushed blackberries, dark plum, blueberries and liquorice that coat the mouth with a youthful opulence. Nuances of subtlety toasted vanillin oak, fennel and spicy pepper are also apparent. Fresh, slightly inky finish with velvet smooth tannins. Fantastic fruit purity and concentration concluding with a long juicy blackberry, dark plum, liquorice, blueberry, vanillin oak and spicy fennel aftertaste. The wines combination of richness, power and freshness will see it develop into an absolute beauty in 5-6 years.
