Named in honour of John “The Gaffer” Riggs (1814-1902), the great-great-great grandfather of winemaker Ben Riggs, this McLaren Vale blended Shiraz was made to acknowledge 150 years of the Riggs family’s rich farming heritage in South Australia. Grapes for the 2017 Gaffer have been sourced from five different vineyard sites.

Rich, deeply fruited and distinctly McLaren Vale.

Impenetrable midnight black core with a deep dark red black hue. Nosing offers up top notes of blackberries and liquorice over subtle spicy vanillin cedar, graphite and blackpepper. Medium to full bodied the palate is decorated with rich blackberry, liquorice and dark plum fruit underpinned by smoky vanillin cedar, subtle infusions of graphite and a very blackpepper inspired finish. Opulent, structured feel with sturdy yet fine grained tannins playing their part. Excellent length with a long deeply fruited aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%
