Since taking over the estate from his father in 1992, Jean-Paul Daumen has become one of the most talented and revered winemakers in all of France regularly producing some of the top wines of the vintage. Made from a blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Cinsault, 5% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre and 5% others, the Lieu-Dit Clavin vineyard is located 3 metres away from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation boundary.

Totally opaque dark red black colour with a bright dark purple hue. Enticing aromatics of black cherries, liquorice and black raspberries sail out of the glass trailed by scorched earth, herbs du Provence and spice. Boasting superb depth and concentration the palate is awash with opulent black cherry, black raspberry and liquorice fruits which are backed by sturdy, slightly chewy tannins. The lavish fruit is complimented by elements of dried herbs, scorched earth, spicy dried meats and pepper. Finishes with some grip on the long, richly fruited aftertaste.
Cellar 5-6 years.
Alc. 14.5%

Other Reviews…..
Moving to the 2017, and more structured and tannic, the 2017 Côtes Du Rhône Lieu-Dit Clavin reveals a deep purple color as well as classic notes of black licorice, blackcurrants, ground pepper, and earth. Medium to full-bodied, with plenty of tannins yet beautiful fruit, it needs 2-4 years of bottle age, but it’s beautiful stuff and I’d wager one of the best Côtes Du Rhône out there. Drink 2021-2031.
