2016 Mount Horrocks Watervale Riesling

The highlight of the 2016 Rieslings thus far.

The 2016 vintage according to winemaker and owner Stephanie Toole was an idyllic season resulting in what is perhaps her best Riesling yet. Brilliant water like colour with a distinctive greenish tinge around the edges. An intense mixture of lime, citrus and green apple aromas rise from the glass with subtle orange and talc notes following. The palate is the perfect marriage of fruit concentration and acid structure featuring mouthfilling lime and citrus flavours intermeshed with orange rind over a background of talc and slatey mineral. Dry, crisp finish with a precise line of mineral infused acidity the spine of the wine. Superb length with a very long conclusion of lime, citrus, orange rind, talc infusions and slatey mineral. A stunning Watervale Riesling. Certified organic.

This is a stunning riesling. So dry, so slatey, so well fruited, so charming and so long. It’s Clare to its back teeth. Lemon-lime, florals, spice and that characteristic bath salts character. The purity and the sheer deliciousness of the citrus flavours on offer here deserve a mention in the dictionary beside the word: gorgeous. Drink 2016-2026+
