2015 Riorret Lusatia Park Pinot Noir

Riorret is the single vineyard project of De Bortoli. One of the best seasons in the last 10 years, the 2015 vintage was warm with timely rainfall resulting in plump, aromatic Pinot Noir with good fruit, natural acidity and abundant flavour.

Semi translucent dark red colour with a bright dark crimson red hue. Perfumed violet and subtle dried clove aromas run into ripe red and dark cherries, and strawberries followed by hints of stalky cedar, a faint meatiness and spice. Gracing the savoury palate are deliciously rich fruit flavours of red and dark cherries mixed in with traces of sour cherry and strawberries which are laced with dried cloves and some meatiness. Spicy cedar nuances ensue. Outstanding power and length with perfectly integrated very finely grained tannins. Finishes very long with an aftertaste of red, dark and sour cherries, strawberries, dried clove infusions, a subtle meatiness and spicy cedar.

The Lusatia Park Vineyard, at the entry to the Upper Yarra Valley, is now owned by De Bortoli, and will provide many outstanding wines in the years to come. This wine is all about purity and finesse, with a strict hands off approach to the whole berry fermentation. There are already hints of forest of violets and of fraises du bois, its gold medal in the Yarra Valley Wine Show '16 absolutely justified. Drink by 2023.
