2014 Gioiello Estate Reserve Chardonnay

Matured in French oak for 12 months. Brilliant pale straw colour with greenish highlights to the edges and a watery hue. Fresh white peach aromas meld with nectarine, light honeyed characters, citrusy nougat and spice. Elegantly creamed in its mouthfeel the palate features flavours of peaches, citrus, nougat, subtle dried honey, lightly toasted vanillin oak and traces of spice. Clean dry finish with an aftertaste of peaches, dried honey, citrusy nougat, lightly toasted vanillin oak and spice.
Drink over the next 3-4 years.

Hand-picked, whole bunch-pressed, wild yeast-fermented in French barriques (25% new), matured for 10 months. Whereas its sibling is loose, this is tight - or at least, tighter, counterintuitively with brighter fruit, grapefruit joining stone fruit flavours; oak, too, is a positive contributor, with no downside. Drink by 2022.
